Check out my page on the Monty Hall Problem! In the 2004 movie Mean Girls, there is scene showing a mathematics contest in which a system of linear equations as well as a limit problem appears. The clip below shows all references to math in the movie.
Here is a clip from the 1991 movie Father of the Bride. In this scene George Banks is at his breaking point and is upset with the math that the store uses. He attempts to find the solution in how to get 8 hotdogs and 8 hotdog buns if hotdog buns are bundled in 12.
In "The Royale", an episode (first aired 27 March 1989) of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Captain Picard states that the theorem had gone unsolved for 800 years. At the end of the episode Captain Picard says, "Like Fermat's theorem, it is a puzzle we may never solve." Wiles' proof was released five years after the particular episode aired. This was subsequently mentioned in a Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode called "Facets" during June 1995 in which Jadzia Dax comments that one of her previous hosts, Tobin Dax, had "the most original approach to the proof since Wiles over 300 years ago." This reference was generally understood by fans to be a retroactive continuity for "The Royale".
F.Y.I. In number theory, Fermat's Last Theorem states that no three positive integers a, b, and c can satisfy the equation an + bn = cn for any integer value of n greater than two. Here is a clip from the 2001 movie Legally Blonde. In this scene Elle is explaining to her fellow lawyers why their client has to innocent using the law of syllogism.
